New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Lacson announced on Monday that his Chinese counterpart would visit New Zealand this week. This is the first visit by a Chinese head of state in seven years. “Given the challenging global outlook, it's important to share our views on key issues for New Zealand and engage China,” he said. It is the second high-level visit to the country by a Chinese official this year, following Foreign Minister Wang Yi's in late March. China is New Zealand's largest trading partner.
China and Australia can become “mutual trust and mutually successful partners”. In November, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who visited Beijing, addressed Xi Jinping, saying he intended to get bilateral relations back on track and end high tensions. The normalization of relations between the two Pacific powers will enter a new phase with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's four-day visit from June 15.
