Copa America: Venezuela will face Canada in the quarterfinals on July 5

Canada will face Venezuela in the quarterfinals of the Copa America after Venezuela beat Jamaica 3-0 in one of the two Group B matches on Sunday night.

Eduardo Bello broke the deadlock in the 49th minute and Venezuela completed the group stage with a perfect record of three wins from as many matches, topping Group B.

The match against Canada will be played Friday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Bello scored the first goal of the match when he headed John Aramburu's cross into the bottom right corner of the net.

This was Bello's second goal in the tournament, after scoring the winner in the 2-1 win over Ecuador in Venezuela's first match.

In the 56th minute, Salomon Rondon took advantage of Yangel Herrera's pass to fire a left-footed shot from the middle of the penalty area that hit the strings.

Rondon also scored his second goal of the tournament, after scoring from the penalty spot in Venezuela's 1-0 win over Mexico.

Eric Ramirez scored the other goal for the winners in the 85th minute.

In front of the Venezuelan net, Rafael Romo blocked the only shot he had on goal.

At the other end of the pitch, Jahmali White did not make any saves for Jamaica (0-3-0).

Ecuador qualifies at the last minute

In Glendale, Ecuador escaped a stoppage-time penalty after a video review and advanced to the quarterfinals after a 0-0 draw with Mexico.

Referee Mario Alberto Escobar Tuca initially awarded a penalty kick to Mexico when Ecuadorian Felix Torres brought down Mexican striker Guillermo Martinez in the penalty area.

However, the penalty was overturned by VAR and the Mexican team was awarded a corner, a decision that drew boos from the Mexican fans in the stands at State Farm.

In terms of the difference between goals scored and conceded, Ecuador withstood Mexico's momentum in the second half to occupy second place in Group B behind Venezuela.

In the quarterfinals on Thursday in Houston, Ecuador will face Argentina, which finished first in Group A.

For its part, Mexico failed to qualify for the knockout round for the fourth time in its last five participations in the Copa America, which could threaten the job of coach Jaime Lozano.
