COVID-19: Did Dr. Fauci Lie?

As was the case during his last two years (he left in 2022) at the helm of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, prominent immunologist Anthony Fauci was attacked for days, mainly by conservatives and Republicans.

Unusual career

Before getting to the reasons for these particularly harsh criticisms, it is important to remember the remarkable career of a scientist who has advised many administrations, Republican and Democratic alike. The one the bosses called Tony, the diminutive, had a global reputation before the pandemic.

He is a member of many prestigious societies, has served fellow citizens and advanced research around the world, but we also owe him the development of many therapies that have helped save lives.

As has been the case for many scholars, Fauci found himself in the midst of turmoil at the height of the epidemic. Between the legitimate concerns of the defeated population and the delirium of the conspirators, he is caught up in the party game, finding himself at the center of an administration that is becoming increasingly political.

Instead of retiring in glory, he still has to struggle against elected House Republicans who leave too much room for their extremist elements.

False and hidden?

You probably already know that, for two years, he has been reprimanded for his seemingly contradictory statements. Was wearing a mask desirable? Why do we advise against hydroxychloroquine, the “miracle” treatment described elsewhere?

Because of fear and panic, many people have forgotten that scientists are not magicians, and that they must react quickly by reviewing certain hypotheses, and learn about the virus and its mutations in the field, not in the laboratory.

As a fine researcher, Anthony Fauci has always agreed to answer questions, adding to his usual responsibilities media tours and a slew of press conferences.

If he’s back in the spotlight, it’s because Republicans are investigating the management of COVID-19, but also its origins. They pounced on a new report from the Department of Energy like smallpox on the lower clergy.

What did this report say? Without the benefit of sufficient evidence, we were reminded of what we already knew, which was that a virus could spread after a lab leak.

Why are you going after Fauci? for he would have done everything to reject this treatise, going so far as to use his influence to silence the collaborators. If an immunologist is guilty of anything, it’s relying on science.

It is possible, especially given China’s lack of transparency, that we will never be sure of the origin of COVID-19.
