Australia ends five-day quarantine for those testing positive, latest Covid-related restriction
This has ended the restrictions imposed in Australia. The country announced on Friday that the five-day quarantine period will end for anyone who tests positive for Covid-19 in the country. The BBC has confirmed that the announcement will take effect from October 14.
Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly has ended the state of emergency in the country, which has been under severe lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Still, he assured that the result “doesn’t in any way mean that the epidemic is over.”
The mandatory quarantine is one of the latest restrictions in Australia, which closed its borders to tourists for two years. About 5,000 cases are registered in the country every day.
“Future Peaks”
Paul Kelly made it clear that the country faces “future peaks” of the virus, but that the number of hospitalizations is currently “very low”.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that aid to those affected by Covid-19 will be suspended. “These measures were always considered emergency measures,” he reasoned.
The Australian Medical Association disagreed with the decision, the BBC reported.
