Finalist of the Air and Space Prize Nouvel Aquitaine 2024

The Cazaux Air Base in Gironde hosted the final of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Prize for Aeronautics and Astronautics on Thursday, May 23, 2024, the aim of which is to introduce high school students to the industrial activity of aviation and space in their region, its professions and its nature. During the day, 7 teams from an initial pool of 207 students from 7 of the district's 12 divisions competed to win first prize in the Middle School, High School and Vocational High School categories. This 22nd edition was marked by a strong presence of high schools, highlighting the growing appeal of the aviation sector among the younger generation. For the first time, the event was able to rely on the presence of vocational secondary schools, recalling their strong connections to these professions.
It was jointly organized by BAAS, an association bringing together leading aerospace contractors, and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Academic Region with the support of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Council, the Ministry of the Armed Forces and the French Aeronautics and Astronautics Association. The Aviation and Space Award aims to promote the aviation and space ecosystem among students in the region and related careers.

The competition is held every year at the home of a BAAS member. In this edition, the 106th Bordeaux-Mérignac Air Base had the honor of welcoming the finalists. The seven competing teams presented ambitious and innovative projects, covering various topics such as designing helicopters with the help of artificial intelligence, preventive maintenance, or the professions of paint and blacksmith technician. Their creativity and quality of work impressed the judging panel, made up of professionals from the sector, members of the university administration and elected officials.
At the end of a day full of discoveries and challenges, the team of Gustave Eiffel High School in Bordeaux (33 years old) won first prize in the high school category, while the team of Marcel Pagnol College of Tonay Bouton (17 years old) and the high school team won. Jan Taris Vocational High School in Perihorad (40) also won first place in its category.
The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Prize for Aeronautics and Astronautics is a real success, as each year it makes it possible to uncover the talents of tomorrow and encourage careers in sectors with a promising future for the region.
