Since October 6, 2020, the name Kaiden Guhle has caused a lot of ink to flow in Montreal. That day, he was selected by the Montreal Canadiens as 16th in the first round of the replay.
Many experts talk about him as a mobile defender that you can rely on defensively. I was just talking about him with my friend Renaud Bourbonnais last night, but some even dared to compare him to Shea Weber…
During the camp we saw what the young man was capable of. What I love about his game is that he never seems nervous and everything seems to be going in slow motion for him. He distributes good checks, is very reliable in his area, and the youngster is able to contribute offensively after scoring three goals during pre-season.
Expectations are still high for him and this doesn’t seem to bother him at all. He’s calm, and that’s what would make him a great hockey player if he’s able to keep his sanity for the next few years.
This year, Guhle will be taking his first steps in the NHL. He has three matches of professional experience (he played briefly for Rocket in 2020-2021 and was the club’s best player in defence) and will have the opportunity to add more to his baggage, and he should start the year in his first duo with David Savard.
What can we expect from the young man then? I’ll let François Gagnon from Réseau des Sports (RDS) answer my question. Here’s what he said in the waiting room last night:
I stand by what I’m saying: If this isn’t your first match, I guarantee you (unless there are big deals) that at the end of the year this guy will be Canada’s best defender! – Francois Gagnon
Fabulous! Nothing less!
And do you know what? I tend to agree with the reporter.
Kaiden Guhle has shown that he has the “It Factor” everywhere he has gone before. He has the qualifications of a leader, but his game on the ice is much better than his leadership qualities.
I don’t think it will be we will Long before he established himself as one of the best defensive men on the Pittman circuit. He has all the tools needed to make it happen.
That’s why I can’t wait to see him go this year. I’ll be watching him closely and have a feeling he could quickly become a crowd favorite if he continues to act like this.
Savard would be by his side to guide him, but it wouldn’t be long before he left his nest and started flying on his own.
