From Lausanne to Canberra, a new wave of Olympic Games is sweeping Australia's national museum

Exhibition Riding the Olympic Wave: The Breakthrough SportOpened its doors on May 31, this new Olympic Games and disciplines draws comparisons between the Paris 2024 and Sydney 2000 Games. At the Olympic Games, Paris 2024 will break ground for the first time, while 3×3 basketball, freestyle BMX, skateboarding, climbing and surfing will return after debuting at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

The games presented all come from youth culture and have created their own universes based on art, fashion, cinema or design. Riding the Olympic wave Explores the spectacular arrival of these new disciplines and their inclusion in the sports program has led to the greatest transformation of the Olympic movement in recent years.

National Museum of Australia director Catherine McMahon welcomed the exhibition's appeal to new audiences.

I believe there is no better way to share our Olympic stories and celebrate our sporting achievements than through this inspiring exhibition,” said Kathryn McMahon.
