He started a fire while protecting his fiancée in the New York subway

A man was seriously burned while protecting his girlfriend from a lunatic who threw a flaming liquid at him on the subway on Saturday in New York.

Petrit Alijaj, 23, said it was all worth it. “I protected my fiancée with my body,” he said, adding that he did not feel any pain because of the medication given to him.

The Albanian man was in the first vehicle with his fiancée and cousin to visit the Statue of Liberty when the attack occurred on Saturday afternoon.

Petrit Alijaj told the media in New York that the assailant, Niall Taylor (49 years old), arrived with a cup containing “something inside it, like oil, lit a fire and threw everything away.”

Quickly, the 23-year-old turned to his partner and cousin for protection. Then his jacket caught fire and he tried to put it out with small taps while fleeing the train.

“And as I was running, I was burning up,” he said.

Finally, firefighters doused it with fresh water.

Petrit Alijaj did not realize the seriousness of his condition at the time, but when he arrived at the hospital, he saw that his body was covered in blisters. He suffered burns to his neck, ears, chest, arms and left hand.

The police quickly found and arrested Niall Taylor.

Last February, a similar attack occurred, and police are investigating to determine whether the 49-year-old was also responsible for it.
