According to this report released Thursday and conducted by Hill & Knowlton, the most affordable city in Canada would be Thunder Bay, Ontario, with an affordability index of 22.2%.

Quebec's largest city, Trois-Rivières, comes in fourth place (28.5%). Quebec and Sherbrooke rank eighth and ninth respectively (30.8%).

Gatineau closes the ranking by reaching 15th place with an affordability index of 36.8%.

Unsurprisingly, no city in British Columbia made the rankings.

Flee large urban centers

According to the survey, Quebec City is the most popular transportation destination among Greater Montreal Area residents (29%), and Edmonton is the top choice for respondents from the Greater Toronto Area (19%) and Greater Vancouver Area (19%). ).

“Many aspiring homeowners in the nation's largest urban centers are seriously considering moving to less expensive cities to get a place on the real estate ladder,” said Karen Yulevsky, chief operating officer of Royal LePage Real Estate Services LLC.

This same report also shows that renters are more likely than owners to consider moving based on housing affordability criteria.

“It is not surprising that in addition to falling real estate prices, some Canadians considering moving to a more affordable city are also looking to reduce their daily expenses and get away from the hustle and bustle of urban centres,” Ms. Yulevsky explained.
