Hockey: David Pasternak’s 50th goal

Connor McDavid is no longer alone. David Pasternak scored 50 on Sunday in a game between the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes.

The Czech star has never achieved such a feat since his professional debut. He still has his hands on the Maurice Richard Trophy in 2019-2020, after threading the needle 48 times in 70 duels.

Meanwhile, Pastrnak collected his 600th career point in his 583rd game at the Bettman Arena.

The last player to score 50 goals in a campaign with the Bruins is Cam Neely. He reached this plateau in 1993-1994.

Pasternak survived the first period against the Keynes and was caught by defender Brent Burns. Then the disc slipped gently between Frederick Andersen’s pads.

The one who signed a $90 million contract extension at the beginning of the month added more in the second period, giving the “Oursons” the lead in a massive attack. All without the support of Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, who had a day off.

The former New Yorkers opened the scoring by completing a tic-tac-toe started by Matthews and Marner, in a massive offense. It was also during a power play situation that he completed his double, jumping on the rebound in front of goalkeeper Kevin Lankinen.

Tyson Barry came to chase his old team at the end of the duel by cutting the gap in half, but the Braeds were unable to complete their comeback. Cody Glass also shook the ropes in the loss.

Good times for the Canucks

In Chicago, Elias Peterson was instrumental in the Vancouver Canucks’ 4-2 victory over the Blackhawks.

Rick Tochet’s men have won 10 of their last 12 games and don’t seem to want to let go, even though their chances of making the playoffs are slim.

Peterson scored two goals, each time being assisted by his friend Andriy Kuzmenko. He has 93 points in 71 games in 2022-23, which is his career best to date.

Brock Bowser and Philip Di Giuseppe each added goals for the Knocks, while Connor Murphy and Lucas Richell provided the home team’s cue.
