Horvat passes on to the islanders; Beauvillier sacrificed

Without a contract starting this summer, Vancouver Canucks captain Beau Horvat was traded to the New York Islanders on Monday for Quebec forward Anthony Beauvilliers, prospect Aato Rati and a protected first-round draft pick in 2023.

According to Sportsnet, the Islanders will keep the pick if it’s in the top 12 of the draft. In such a situation, the Canucks would get a first-round pick for 2024, but this time unprotected. Team BC will keep 25% of Horvat’s salary, or $1.375 million on payroll.

Maxim Lapierre and Guillaume Latendresse are back on the whole stock exchange. Watch what they had to say in the main video of the article.

The 27-year-old is on track to have the best season of his career with 31 goals and 54 points in 49 games so far. However, he appears to want to monetize his success as he plays the final campaign of his five-year, $33 million contract.

“I thought I was going to be a Canuck for life,” said Horvat, whose comments were quoted by Sportsnet.

“It has not been an easy year,” he added.

Horvat also clarified that no contract extension negotiations had taken place with the Islanders prior to the deal.

“We would like to thank Bo Horvat for everything he has done for the Vancouver Canucks during his nine seasons in Vancouver,” general manager Patrick Alvin said in a statement. He was a great leader and ambassador.”

For his part, Beauvilliers scored nine goals and 20 points in 49 games in his seventh season in the National Hockey League (NHL), all with the “Islands”. He will become an unrestricted free agent in 2024, and will have an annual impact of $4.15 million on his team’s payroll by then.

Finally, Ratti played in the first 12 matches of his career this season. Hit the target twice. With the Bridgeport Islanders of the American League, he added seven goals and 15 points in 27 games. He was a second round pick for the New York team in 2021. He will report to the Abbotsford Canucks.

“Despite the difficulty of trading our captain, we are delighted to add a quality 25-year-old winger in Anthony Beauvilliers, a young Atu Rati center and a Round 1 protector. These pieces will play an important role in our development and growth,” Alvin said, adding that Sorel’s home run saw Tracy be entered into the Canucks’ top six.
