Four months later The release of his player Josh CavalloAdelaide United are the first Australian league club to play Pride games (Pride fits). On Saturday, February 26, at Coopers Stadium, the Adelaide women’s team will face Melbourne Victory FC, before the men’s team face Central Coast Mariners FC. Adelaide players wear rainbow names and numbers on the backs of their shirts as a sign of support and solidarity with the LGBTI + community.

“This is an important day for me, the LGBTI + community and Adelaide United” Josh Cavallo is said to be the only active and openly gay player in one of the world’s largest men’s football leagues. “Adelaide United is an incredibly inclusive environment and it’s like a big family. They have been very supportive of me since I came to Adelaide and I can not be proud of organizing the Club and the Pride Cup.” Women’s team captain Isabel Hodgson hopes the game will help include the champion: “I hope this game will have an impact on local clubs and make the dressing room culture more welcoming and inclusive across the country.”
