JAKARTA – Indonesian diplomatic missions in Australia have offered Kangaroos cooperation with educational institutions in the country to learn the Indonesian language.
This was announced during the signing of an extended memorandum of understanding between the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra's Director of Instruction and Culture, Professor Mohamed Najib, and the Director of Catholic Education South Australia (CESA), Mark Corrigan, at the Cordy Chabit College, Adelaide South Galilee campus. This extension reiterates the commitment of both parties to promote increased interest in the Indonesian language, cultural exchange and cross-cultural understanding in Australia.
Vedi Kurnia Buana, General Councilor of the Republic of Indonesia in Sydney, said the update under CESA auspices represents a joint commitment to support language learning in schools in southern Australia and promote Indonesian art and culture.
“This MoU is the basis for mutually beneficial academic cooperation between the two parties through professional learning opportunities, online education and collaboration, school partnerships, exchange tours and various activities,” said Konjen Vedi. 15.
Meanwhile, CESA Executive Director Mark Corrigan said that the extension of this collaboration gives students the opportunity to develop an understanding of everyday languages, culture, traditions and life in Indonesia.
“Students will feel the impact of the MoU signed today, such as cultural and linguistic exchange through a number of activities jointly organized in schools under the auspices of CESA,” said Mark Corrigan.
The signing was inaugurated with an Indonesian cultural performance by representatives of the Indonesian community.
Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) is the parent education agency of approximately 101 Catholic schools in South Australia, with a total enrollment of approximately 52,590 children.
There are currently about 3,300 students under the supervision of Indonesian-speaking CESA. This has increased from the initial 2,700 students.
