Australia coach Eddie Jones has named his 33-man squad. With him comes the first signs of what the Wallabies will look like in the coming months.
Eddie Jones has called his first squad of 33 players for the first three-day training camp on the Gold Coast. A group with a certain number of surprises, but not as certain as Eddie Jones pointed out. “It’s not about the group going to the World Cup. It’s about the first group for the first meeting. You have a card to stay there because you’re part of the group.”
They don’t have a winning mindset. We need winners or we won’t win
“If you’re not in this group, the players have to make an effort to be there. Those who are there have lived up to expectations in terms of effort, work and thoughts. But they don’t. They don’t have the mentality to win, especially against New Zealand teams. We need winners because if we don’t change our mentality. We will not win. I say it again Australia has the talent but no there is not a competitive team yet. We have to work harder and smarter because if we keep doing what we are doing we will not go anywhere. We have to have a different approach, we have to train differently to get different results..”
The group consists of 6 players without picks and 8 players with less than 10 picks. 7 overseas players have been invited to participate in the sessions via Zoom. Among them, 2 players are in France, Will Skelton (La Rochelle) and Richie Arnold (Toulouse). The other 5 originate in Japan.
