The man was reselling modified Amazon Fire TV Sticks and communicating with his customers through Facebook and WhatsApp. In some cases, he personally delivered modified devices to his customers. In addition to the prison sentence, the man must perform more than 100 hours of community service.
As reported TorrentFreak, a 41-year-old man was sentenced to two years in prison and 150 hours of community service. The latter, from Liverpool (United Kingdom), resold modified Amazon Fire TV Sticks with an IPTV subscription. The modified box specifically allowed access to Sky and TNT sports.
At the same time, he resold illegal stand-alone IPTVs at prices ranging from €50 to €90. Britton used Facebook and WhatsApp to communicate with his customers. In some cases, he delivered illegal IPTVs in person.
In total, his activities would have earned him just under €150,000 (£130,000). The man was arrested on July 4, 2023 and pleaded guilty at his trial.
The Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) was keen to recommend this sanction as a warning to those engaging in or intending to engage in this type of practice. FACT's CEO Kieran Sharp set the tone: ” If you sell a device that gives you access to content that you do not license or own, you may be subject to criminal investigation, prosecution and conviction. “.
This hope again shows us that the fight against illegal IPTV is intensifying. Recently, we learned that one of the biggest IPTV platforms has gone missing.
