After being embroiled in trade rumors since the acquisition of Casey DeSmith, goaltender Jake Allen has reportedly received confirmation from the Canadiens that he will remain in Montreal.
At least that’s what Raphael Doucet, a journalist for La Poche Bleue, said, citing an informed source.
Unless the Habs truly intend to start the regular season with three goaltenders, that would mean DeSmith’s eventual departure via trade.
It must be said that Jake Allen’s contract, which has an average annual value of $3.85 million and runs through 2025, is very difficult to replace. DeSmith is in the final year of his contract and is only making $1.8 million in payroll.
TVA Sports journalist Anthony Martino recently reported that DeSmith and his wife are particularly nervous, waiting to learn their fate.
