The Nobel laureate in economics joins a council with the President of the Republic consisting of twelve high-ranking scientists.
Jean Tyrol, economist and honorary president of the Toulouse School of Economics, is one of twelve high-ranking scientists appointed by the President of the Republic to his new Presidential Scientific Council. Established on December 7, its goal is to “put science at the heart of public decisions.”
Direct dialogue with the President of the Republic
These scientists will surround Emmanuel Macron to inform him of the latest research developments and advise him on the challenges the country faces and will face. The Council will have “an internal role in direct contact with the President,” according to the Elysee. For his part, Jean Tirole stressed that “science brings hope. It can help solve existential challenges such as global warming, health and epidemics.”
But France must be able to retain its place “at the global scientific and entrepreneurship gala: artificial intelligence, biotechnologies, applied physics, and new technologies for decarbonisation” lists the Nobel Prize in Economics (2014) who declared during this nomination: “I am happy to join the Cannes “My scientific colleagues in this initiative aim to build bridges between politicians and scientists and think together about our scientific future.”
