Last season was very difficult for the Montreal Canadiens.
We knew we were going to see a season where the team finished at the bottom, but at least we were happy to know that we would be able to monitor the development and progress of the different young players in the squad.
Well, unfortunately, we didn’t see Injury’s Tomb coming.
In fact, every player on the team was injured at some point in the season, which greatly hindered everyone’s development and progress.
Especially among the youth, the majority did not play enough matches for their rookie season, which hurt their development.
Fortunately, some guys (besides Nick Suzuki who hasn’t missed a game since joining the NHL) have managed to play a lot of games.
One of these is defender Jordan Harris.
Without rolling the crowd’s eyes every time he played, Harris had a solid rookie season establishing himself as a reliable and consistent defender.
The 23-year-old defender also played 65 matches and collected 17 points, including four goals.
Nothing to impress, which is why Harris often underestimates the Montreal crowd.
The 23-year-old defender has done well in his rookie season, however, he faces solid adversity night after night → https://t.co/P2md4hMHeM

However, Harris should not be underestimated, as he still has great potential that he can reach early next season.
In fact, Harris is one of the players who will likely have a bigger impact on the team next season.

After enjoying a solid rookie season, Harris will need to show he’s ready to reach the next level in his development.
He was playing as often as the seasoned veteran last season, which should help him perform more this season.
Besides, the fact that Harris already looked like he was playing like a veteran his age last season and that he does everything so well on the ice is exactly the reasons why he should be underestimated.
We often forget about it and don’t really notice it.
And this is where Harris will have to make a “move” in his development.
He should be able to assert himself more in 2023-2024.
His experience gained during his rookie season will surely help him thrive and show that he can do more.
That’s why I said in my title that he might hatch.
But I also said he should hatch next season.
Why?
Well, because places will be very limited in the coming years for defense in CH.
Len Hutson, Logan Mailo, David Reinbacher (even Adam Engstrom) will join an already well-equipped defense and will certainly take their place.
So, if Harris isn’t able to thrive this season to show he’s more than a consistent and dependable defender, he could lose his spot.
We don’t want that to happen, but if Harris fails to thrive in 2023-24 to come close to his still very much there potential, the 23-year-old defender could be running out of time.
In short, it will be a very important season for Harris who will have to show that he is irreplaceable and hold his place as a pillar of CH’s defense for several seasons.
