Kent Hughes makes his first appointment

Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes made his first hire on July 1 by giving Quebec forward Alex Barrie-Boulet a one-year contract.

The agreement is worth $775,000, but it is above all one part.

“It's financial security,” the main interested party admitted in an interview with TVA Sports.

However, he has no intention of sitting on his laurels.

“I will come to the camp ready to give everything and try to earn my place in the team. I am now 27 years old. Things will be very good there or ever,” he stressed.

Barry Polite, 27, has been unable to establish himself full-time in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Seattle Kraken over the past five years.

Never drafted, he compiled points in the QMJHL with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, then in the American League with the Syracuse Crunch.

The 5'10″ small forward will try to earn a spot in CH's next training camp, but he could provide very valuable services to the Laval Rocket, who are also still looking for a new coach.
