Pittsburgh Penguins' Kristoffer Letang set an impressive NHL record with a 7-0 win over the New York Islanders on Wednesday night at UPS Arena.
The Quebecois player actually collected no fewer than five assists…in one stretch of play, against the New York Islanders.

The 36-year-old athlete thus became the first defender in the history of Pitman Arena to achieve this feat.
Only one player has accomplished this in NHL history and that was forward Dale Hawerchuk in 1984 with the Winnipeg Jets.
In the second period, Letang was complicit in the successes of Jake Guentzel (twice), Evgeni Malkin (twice) and Radim Zohorna. Rickard Rakell also hit the target during this clash.
However, Letang wasn't done improving his goal tally, as he also provided an assist for Valtteri Puustinen's goal in the third period. He thus tied the record by an NHL defenseman in a single game. Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey have remarkably accomplished this feat before. Gary Sutter, in 1986, was the last to collect six assists in a single game.
Sixth point for Letang in the same match! –
This is the first time in his successful career that the Montreal native has collected six points in one game. He already collected five assists against the Jets in January 2015.
