Behind the scenes of the NHL, people think the Vegas Golden Knights are a team to watch in the Mitch Marner case.
The Vice City team has never been afraid to make a splash: they've acquired several big names over the years, including Mark Stone, Jack Eichel, and Noah Hanifin.
Marner, 27, will be able to achieve full autonomy in the summer of 2025.
“A lot of people suspect Vegas is stalking them,” Elliotte Friedman noted in Leafs Nation’s “Leafs Morning Take” report on Wednesday. Vegas, they're smart. They are always around good players. So there are people speculating and mentioning the names of Shea Theodore and Logan Thompson.
David Pagnotta, for his part, points out that even if things haven't really changed on that front, the Maple Leafs have a better idea of the destinations preferred by Marner, who has a no-movement clause.
Going back to Friedman's information, it seems that the most likely scenario is to see Marner play another season in the Queen City. Marner's agent, Darren Ferris, is a tough negotiator and will not easily give up his client's chance for release.
Ferris was also seen at an NHL prospect evaluation session in Buffalo (Combine) talking to Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving. Another of Ferris' clients with the Maple Leafs is defenseman Joel Edmundson.
