Just over two years ago, Martin St. Louis arrived as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens. He returned to live in Quebec after years in English Canada and the United States.
Necessarily, he was rusty in his French during press conferences, and this is normal.
He decided to ask Chantal Machabe to translate into French the words he did not know, so that he would not always use English words in his answers in French. I've always respected that. You have the right not to know, but learning as you go helps.
But this morning, after today's training, the opposite situation happened: trainer He was answering a question in English and could only think of the French word.
So he asked for help switching from French to English.
I don't know about you, but I can't remember a time when he had trouble finding a word in English. It's usually the French words that give him a hard time.
But not this time… And he pointed out the irony of the situation in his response to Joel Edmundson, who is in town tonight with the Maple Leafs.
Usually, it's the opposite! You've come a long way. – Martin St. Louis
He no longer remembers what to say the former Canadian defenseman was Unified In English. So he got help from bilingual journalists to translate the word.
He laughed, as did the people in the room. In my eyes, it's just a beautiful moment.
