There were rumors over the summer about this, but that has now been confirmed.
New York Islanders striker Matthew Barzal has signed a contract extension with the team. The term of the agreement is eight years, and his contract begins at the beginning of the next season (2023-2024).
So he will earn $7 million this year (2022-2023) and He will earn $9.15 million over the next eight seasons, from 2023 to 2031.
The islanders announced themselves via their Twitter account.

So Berzal is in New York to stay there. It was so much better for him, when he just went to pay. But, good for backers in particular.
The player is among the elite of the NHL in terms of skills It is exciting to watch go. Therefore, to see Lou Lamoriello sign him on a long-term basis is great news for the team’s fans. Yes, it is expensive to pay and I agree with that. But we are making sure we have an excellent player for the next nine years.
Barzal is twenty-five years old president. He had 59 points in 73 games last year (his worst average points per game since his debut in the league in 2016) in a bad season.
Offensively, it brings out the main interested party. And in his young career, he wouldn’t really have the chance to play with another player of his talent, besides John Tavares in his first year with the team.
On paper, the islanders are not necessarily tempted. The team did so well (indeed brilliantly) in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, reaching the Eastern Conference Finals twice, but that wasn’t necessarily due to the raw talent present within the club.
It was Barry Trotz’s defensive playing system that got them so far.
In short. All this to say that Barzal should have been better surrounded, in my opinion. Pair him with an attacking winger, and I’m sure he’ll collect a lot of points.
During that time…
The stars are not damned to get along with Jason Robertson.
extension
– interesting.
Matt Barzal becomes the 37th player to earn a cap of at least $9 million in the 2023-24 NHL season. The ninth of the 2015 draft.
