Kamloops | Quebec Remparts finally know the identity of their opponent in the Memorial Cup final.
The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Peterborough Petes 4-1 in the semifinals on Friday night to secure their ticket to Sunday’s final.
The Bets, however, sold their skins dearly, but despite the brilliance of their guard Michael Simpson, they were unable to pull off a punch against the T-Birds offense. The latter still had to wait at the end of the second period to score first, Brad Lambert, on the 31st shot aimed at Simpson.
Colton Dash doubled Seattle’s lead early in the third but Brennan Osman narrowed the lead to 2-1 shortly after.
But Kyle Crnkovic scored the knockout goal that made it 3-1. Then it was the Thunderbirds’ goaltender, Thomas Milic, to close the door against repeated attacks from the Petes who were fighting for their survival. Niko Mijatović finished the empty net.
Simpson finished the match with a total of 43 passes, compared to 27 for Milic.
Thus, the logic will be respected because many expected a final match between these two squads, at the start of the tournament. The Remparts won the first game between the two teams 3-1 on May 29.
