Bo Bichette hit his 25th home run of the season and the Toronto Blue Jays completed a sweep of the White Sox with a 3-1 win in Chicago on Wednesday.
Despite the win, the Blue Jays suffered the loss of pitcher Alec Manuah, who left with two outs in the second with an elbow injury.
Manuah, 26, spent 1.2 innings on the mound before appearing to be injured on a pitch to Dominic Fletcher. He will suffer from discomfort in his right elbow, which does not bode well for the rest of his season.
He jumped off the mound and left the game without throwing another ball after visiting the team's coach.
“There was a real crisis,” the 26-year-old right-hander said. It became: “Am I going through this and it could get worse, or do I pass the ball to someone else.” »
In five starts this season, Manuh has gone 1-2 with a 3.70 ERA since returning from the minor leagues in early May.
Trevor Richards (1-0) took charge admirably, earning 10 points. He gave up just one hit and just one walk.
“A day off would be welcome,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. Hats off to Trevor. It was very effective. »
Tim Maiza, Zach Pope, and Yemi Garcia reached out to Jordan Romano, author of The Eighth Rescue.
Bichette hit a single in the third inning. Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit a similar single in the fourth. He also scored a runner with a choice in the sixth.
George Springer hit two runs for the Blue Jays, who had lost three in a row in Detroit, before showing up in the Windy City.
Toronto will play again Friday night at home against Pittsburgh. This will be the start of a seven-game residency at Rogers Center.
The White Sox managed just four hits en route to their eighth straight loss.
Corey Lee is back for the White Sox, who have won just one of their last 13 games.
Chris Flexen (2-5) allowed five walks in five innings, while also allowing two runs and four hits.
