MLB: The Blue Jays are without a complicated, complete game for Chris Bassett

Chris Bassett was tenacious on the mound with the Toronto Blue Jays, who shut out the Atlanta Braves 3-0 Friday night in Toronto.

The Jays thus ended their short two-loss streak and signed a fourth victory in their last six games.

Starter Bassett handcuffed the Brave hitters, who were limited to two light hits and no runs in the game. Only Ronald Acuna Jr. and Eddie Rosario managed to get the ball to safety.

Bassett finished with eight strikeouts for his fifth win of the season with seven decisions.

Bassett shot 103 to allow two doubles in the fifth and a single in the sixth. He also struck out two batters.

George Springer drove in with a single in the fifth inning, while Dalton Varshaw homered in the eighth. The Blue Jays’ other point was scored by Nathan Lukes, on a ball that was not caught by receiver Sean Murphy.

Spencer Stryder (4-1) allowed two runs and five hits in six and thirds, with 12 batters at bats. He struck out at least eight batters in each of his eight innings in 2023.

The match took place in front of 35,047 people at Rogers Centre. The starting shooters on Saturday will be Bryce Elder (3-0) and Jose Berrios (3-3).
