As the days go by before the season begins, it seems inevitable that the Montreal Canadiens will make at least one deal.
With Joel Edmondson still struggling with injury, coach Martin St. Louis only had three veterans in defense: Mike Matheson, David Savard and Chris Weidman.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if the Canadians gave up,” Renaud Lavoie said on Friday at the clock. GC.
“Do you really want to have three rookies on defense on any given night in the National League? The answer is no. You’ll probably be looking for a role player who can stabilize things a bit. You’ll give a little bit of oxygen to the young defenders.
Then in the network, it wasn’t much better with Jake Allen and Samuel Montembolt. Only Kayden Primo has a contract that allows him to play in the Pittsman Arena.
“It is the only team that has only three goalkeepers under contract to be able to play in the National League,” said Renault Lavoie. Most teams have four, five or six… that’s the norm. This will be an important file to watch between now and the opening match.
Whether through concessions or deals, expect to see movement inside the Hab over the next few days.
