Netflix has signed a partnership with BARB, the Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board, in the UK to reveal the number of views of its content. A first for the site, it usually hides its stats quite a bit.
A big change will happen across the channel with Netflix’s viewership metrics. Until now, the site has been very tight-lipped about its statistics, specifically revealing how many hours have been watched in total, but nothing more.
Daily data
Henceforth, by partnering with BARB, Netflix will provide accurate broadcast statistics like it does for traditional TV channels. A comparison between the platform and the classic channel is easy.
Netflix is the most popular in the United Kingdom, with two-thirds of Britons using the site monthly and attracting 8% of viewers, more than Channel 4, Channel 5 or Sky. Guardian. The streaming platform is still a far cry from the BBC or ITV.
However, Netflix is confident in releasing these figures, which are released daily and with the same approach for channels or platform. Viewing data based on programs watched for at least five minutes is no longer a question.
Channels should be happy that Netflix has seen a competitor that doesn’t play the game to attract new programs.
