NHL Awards Ceremony: Nathan MacKinnon wins second trophy with Hart

Nathan MacKinnon was named the MVP by his peers earlier in the evening, and capped off the NHL awards show by winning the Hart Trophy on Thursday.

The 28-year-old has reached his fourth HART final after finishing second in the voting twice and third on another occasion.

He joins Peter Forsberg (2002-03) and Joe Sakic (2000-01) as the third color wearer in Avalanche and Nordiques history to be crowned Most Valuable Player.

MacKinnon won the Ted Lindsay Award for the first time, competing against Nikita Kucherov (Lightning), who had previously won the award once, and Auston Matthews (Maple Leafs). Kucherov was also nominated for the Hart Award, along with Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers.

MacKinnon finished second in scoring with 140 points (51 goals, 89 assists) in 82 games behind Kucherov. His 51 goals placed him fourth in the NHL and his 48 power play points (10 goals, 38 assists) placed him second.

He became the sixth player in Avalanche and Nordiques history to score 50 goals in a season, trailing only Peter Stastny (93 in 1981–82) for the most assists in a single season.

He also became the first to record two streaks of 19 games with at least one point in the same season.
