The Italian company will work with another company, Axiom Space, to combine materials and manufacturing expertise, BBC News reported.
Astronaut Jeffrey Hoffman believes that Prada will be able to meet the challenge because of its experience in designing marine suits in particular.
“Prada has great experience working with several types of composite materials and can make real artistic contributions to the outer layers of the new suit,” he explains.
However, the new equipment will not be prohibitive, according to Mr. Hoffman.
“The spacesuit is kind of like a miniature spaceship,” he continues. Maintaining a good thermal environment is really the most important.
The suits are expected to be used for the first time in 2025 during the Artemis 3 mission, which is expected to mark the first visit by humans to the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972.
