Running: 12-year-old boy raises eyebrows by beating seasoned athletes

A boy just 12 years old shaved off the hair of the veteran athletes last Saturday during a five-kilometre forest event in Lac Beauport.

It was a lot of fun on the event stage with two top players at his side with several years of training behind their relationships.

On the top step, youngster Olivier Belanger also smiled as he accomplished his feat. Over this distance of the Trail La Clinique Du Coureur, which brought together nearly 200 runners, the Lévis athlete won in a fast time of 24 minutes and 37 seconds.

“I always leave fast enough to get a place among the first ones. After that, I was able to maintain my speed,” the winner explained frankly.

Rocks, roots, and many other natural obstacles don't seem to hinder his running much. On the contrary, he knew how to avoid falling and witnesses say he ran easily while climbing.

Jogging

“It was still difficult even if it was one of my records. I do a lot of work on the road, but I started running and I love it. I often go into the woods near my house,” Belanger added.

The silver medalist, an Ironman competing athlete, quickly saw a small figure from the start.

“I was having a hard time catching up to him and he suddenly told me not to hesitate to pass him!” With 400 meters to go, I grimaced in pain and Olivier increased his pace to the finish. Goals

“I finished second in the Tour du Lac-Beauport and also in a race at the Sainte-Foy outpost. I left with the idea in my mind that I wanted to finish first, but I knew that was not a given.”

Unsurprisingly, Olivier is already looking at the rest of his calendar. He is expected to take part in a 5km race at the Course des Bocages on June 15 in Saint-Augustin-des-Desmouris.

For those in the know, his road record will be just under 19 minutes.
