Shane Wright had a (very) clear message for his teammates

We talked a lot, a lot about Shane Wright for months. And this is completely normal. But while the comments about it have generated their share of negativity, I’d like us to focus a little more on the positive.

Because yes, there are pluses.

Wright was fresh from winning gold with Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships and was serving as the team’s captain. He collected seven points in the most matches, but his locker room participation caught the eye according to Stephen Julian, assistant coach of the Canadian national team.

The latter said on the airwaves for BPM Sports Hope Kraken greatly impressed him not because of his qualities on the ice, but because of his qualities as a leader. Julian also gave a concrete example to defend his words:

Shane Wright stood in the bedroom after the first period and said, Michigan’s over! Stephen Julian

Obviously, the coach was referring to the team’s first match against the Czech Republic. We remember Conor Bedard and Adam Fantelli experimenting with maneuvering in the first period and it got a lot of ink flowing.

Dylan Gunter also came out publicly saying the team would not make it to the final with such “crazyness”:

The executives and coaches felt that Wright would be the perfect candidate to stand in the bedroom when things were going well and they made the right call. Seeing Stefan Julian’s praise for the striker is direct evidence of that.

While he was having a tougher time in Seattle, I have a feeling the championship is going to be good for Shane Wright’s confidence. He may not have dominated as much as he had hoped, but he did his homework and was one of the undisputed leaders of the team that won the gold medal.

And this is worth emphasizing.

Now I can’t wait to see how he responds to being fired from the OHL. Note that it was traded with Windsor Spitfires yesterday:
