Space is a common good. This sounds strange but it must be remembered because in the 1960s, the United Nations looked into the matter and decreed that the resources that ultimately exist in the universe should be for the good of all and belong to no one. The problem is that it is difficult to regulate this environment.
At the moment, we are not yet at the technology that can exploit the asteroid. However, international law has great ambiguity about the possibilities of mining resources elsewhere, among other things. Especially since with the “new space” technologies created by billionaires like Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos, space exploration becomes less expensive.
Not to mention that not all countries are starting from the same position in this “space rush”. The United States and China are doing well, but Europe and other continents are lagging behind. In the way of conquest of the West, unfortunately, we seem to see the same phenomenon repeating itself: first come, first served. Law and order will come later, unfortunately.
