The Australian national team swimmers arrive at the Odyssey in Chartres on Friday, July 1.

From this Friday, July 1st, the winds of the holiday and landscape change will blow in the pools of the Odyssey swimming pool. First, the aquatic campus is starting summer activities for adults and children, but above all the Australian National Swimming Team will be taking summer quarters in Chartres.
About fifty people, including thirty swimmers, will begin training in the two Olympic 50-meter pools this Friday. Australian swimmers will stay in the Odyssey until Sunday, July 24th.

Ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Australia will set up its base camp at L’Odyssée in Chartres.

Host city

Chartres Métropole, owner of the Odyssey, was a candidate for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. However, the Arena la Defense (Hauts-de-Seine) in Nanderrey preferred the Chartrain site. So the community has established itself with the International Swimming Federation (FINA) and has become the host city of a national team.
So Chartreuse will be the backbone of the Australian team for the Olympics.

“This country is a reference in the world of swimming. This is a great exhibit for our aquatic campus to welcome these swimmers for three weeks. ⁇

“The Australian team enjoyed our campus during the Swimming World Cup rounds. Our two 50-meter pools have been a success for the physical and technical training of Australians,” explains Loic Kurin, sales and communications manager at Verd Marine, which manages the Odyssey as part of the public service team provided by Chartres Metropole.

Swimmers train twice a day. A queue will be held each day from 8am to 10pm before the campus opens to the public. The second will take place at the end of the afternoon, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Bleachers and beaches around the 50-meter outdoor pool have been closed to the public to maintain the tranquility of the Australian team’s training sessions.

“The idea is to privatize the pools for them so that they can benefit from the ideal environment for swimming, Loïc Guérin continues. They will use indoor or outdoor pools depending on their needs.”

Very precise setup

The tracks will be cleared half an hour before the Australian swimmers arrive. This event needs to be as close as possible with all the summer activities and public attendance during the summer holidays, which requires a very precise system that has been planned for a long time.

“We know Australians are coming from the summer of 2021. Everything is organized according to their schedule. They should be well received with security, but not detrimental to planned activities and events.”
