The Canadians defeated the Australians 33–14 in a four-team Pacific Four rugby union series in Sydney, Australia.
Sarah Cline and McKinley Hunt each scored two tries to help Canada win.
At halftime, the Canadiens led 19 to 7. In the 47th minute, they fell behind, but outnumbered, they defended their territory well and the Australians could not get back into the score.
Daleika Menin scored a goal, and captain Sophie de Gote scored four conversion kicks.
In rugby union, a try is worth five points (since 1992) and a conversion is worth two extra points.
“Our backs played well today,” De Goide said. They fed our attacks well. It was a great team effort.
This will be the first match between the two teams on Australian soil.
The Pacific Four Series is an international competition created in 2021, contested by Australia, Canada, the United States and New Zealand. During the first edition, only Canada and the United States participated, with teams from Australia and New Zealand barred due to the global pandemic. They joined the tournament in 2022.
