Boris Johnson’s successor in Britain’s parliament will be chosen in a July 20 by-election after the former prime minister resigned following an investigation into his conduct, the city council announced Thursday.
Mr Johnson last week said he was standing down as MP for the west London borough of Uxbridge and South Ruislip after learning of a parliamentary report into questioning that he had misled parliament about meetings in his office during the Covid lockdowns.
The report, released in full on Thursday, said he deliberately misled parliament about parties breaking the rules, but Mr Johnson called the report a “lie” and a “ridicule”.
“Following Boris Johnson’s resignation as Member of Parliament on Friday 12 June, the by-election for the Uxbridge and South Ruislip parliamentary constituency will take place on Thursday 20 July 2023,” Hillington Council said in a statement.
Boris Johnson resigned as Prime Minister last year.
Another by-election to replace Boris Johnson’s close ally Nigel Adams in his North Yorkshire constituency will be held on the same date following his resignation on Saturday.
Tory MP Nadine Dorries has also said she will step down in favor of Mr Johnson, but she has not officially done so and there is no date yet for a by-election to replace her.
