A comedy night in Gatineau sparked outrage on the Internet after it was discovered that a comedian named Sonia Belanger appeared on several promotional posters, when in reality that person did not exist.
And it was the group of women behind the “pasdefillsurlepacing” Instagram page who exposed the affair on Sunday.
“It’s as crazy as the effort to just not book a female comedian! We really tip our hats to you. Slow clapping,” may we read.
On Instagram, many netizens hastened to respond, denouncing a ploy aimed at silencing criticism of the lack of women in the “rows” of comedy evenings.
Here are some comments written under “pasdefillsurlepacing”:
“Okay, but comedians, please, boycott this place for a f**k.” Joke. Literally “Hahaha we incels.”
“When they say ‘girls aren’t funny’ what they mean is ‘I’m too weak for a girl to be funnier than me’.”
“It is important to bring it back like this! They (just) prove that they leave no place for women by creating women who do not exist.”
No need to go to their parties. No joke can top this unrestrained stupidity poster.
Comedians who attended some shows where “Sonia Belanger” was supposed to appear confirmed to TVA Nouvelles that they had never seen her before. However, the fictitious comedian appears on nearly a dozen promotional posters posted to the Facebook page “Thursday Julien Dion and His Friends at Troquet”.
Comedian Julien Dion who was contacted by TVA Nouvel, the party’s organizer, did not respond to our request for an interview.
“Amateur entrepreneur. Professional internet expert. Zombie maven. Incurable pop culture scholar.”
