The Stade Olympique will have to temporarily close its doors due to major works, which will force the cancellation of many events, including FC Montreal matches.
Due to uncertain spring temperatures, Bleu-Blanc-Noir generally begins its regular seasons at this stand while waiting for Stade Saputo to become acceptable again. However, removing the artificial pitch for an indefinite period will disrupt plans.
“The exploratory work to be carried out includes design, engineering and architectural analyses, surveys, excavation and inspection, as well as preventive maintenance of the drainage system in the area. The mobile stands will also be dismantled over the coming weeks,” the Olympic Park said in a press release on Tuesday.
On social media, CF Montreal explained that the organization was close to completing a feasibility study for the roof replacement project. The home opener of the 2024 season will only be played in April, at Saputo Stadium.
“We are aware of the ramifications of this decision, but we have a responsibility to take the required actions with our partners, including FC Montreal, to minimize the consequences of temporarily being unable to access the stadium,” the president and CEO added. Olympic Park, Michel Lebrecque.
Over the next few months, ExpoHabitation (February 8-11) and the Montreal Electric Car Show (April 19-21) are planned in the central area of the stadium.
“We are working closely with the promoters concerned to support them in looking for alternatives,” Mr. Labrecque said.
