The people of Gatineau seem to have an easy time being sworn in. The city ranks among the places in Quebec where residents use the most nasty words.
As funny as it may sound, this is what emerged from a recent survey.
Gatineau holds the first step on the podium in Quebec and third across Canada in terms of the most podiums used.
This is according to a study by Preply, a company dedicated to language learning.
They interviewed more than 1,500 Canadians spread across the country’s 44 largest cities.
According to the data collected, Gatineau is above average, which is 9 swear words per day.
Gatineau residents prefer to use 13 Pronunciations a day, associated with Regina and Chatham-Kent.
Only one other city in Quebec is on the list, Trois-Rivières, which ranks seventh.
And the president of the Impératif français didn’t say he was surprised by these stats, either.
According to Jean-Paul Perrault, this may come from our proximity to Ontario. Mixing the two languages and cultures, he said, would encourage the use of swear words, especially when used in a highly emotional context.
