Having played 625 career games, all with the Sabers, the 29-year-old forward is Buffalo’s longest serving active player. As a Swiss regular, he has accumulated between 15 and 19 points over the past seven campaigns.
The former first-round pick got a pay raise, increasing his salary from $2.2 million to $2.5 million by signing the agreement.
The Girgensons and captain Kyle Okposo, both veterans, are two of the most respected voices in the Sabers locker room, which has many new faces. However, the left winger is looking for a first place in the playoffs, and it is he who notably missed the entire 2020-2021 season due to injury.
Many also know the name of the depth player for his participation in the 2015 All-Star Game. Girgensons won the fan vote, carried by the votes of his native country.
