Cape Canaveral, FloridaAnd May 14, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — NASA has revealed the launch date for the Saudi astronauts’ mission: May 21, 2023. So, on this day, Rayana, Barnawi and Ali Al-Qarni should leave for the International Space Station on a manned spaceflight.
The launch took place after completing their training programme. This launch is part of the Saudi astronaut program, and aims to achieve Saudi ambitions in space research and achieve the goals of Vision 2030.
The Saudi Space Authority (SSC) confirmed that this space flight will last 12 days, and it will take off from the United States, and most importantly, it will go down in history. In fact, the astronauts will conduct 14 groundbreaking science experiments in microgravity intended to help scientists and researchers design new ways to provide conditions suitable for humans — including making artificial rain. The results will enhance Saudi Arabia’s global position in the field of space exploration and service to humanity. It will also confirm the role of Saudi research centers in having a scientific impact in this field. The astronauts will also conduct three educational outreach experiences with 12,000 Saudi students via live broadcast.
This mission, once accomplished, places Saudi Arabia as one of the rare countries to have had astronauts of the same nationality simultaneously aboard the International Space Station. Its success will enhance its global standing in the field of space exploration and service to humanity. It will be the cornerstone of the astronaut program, which aims to prepare future astronauts and engineers, through high-quality educational and training programs, participation in scientific experiments, international research and future space-related missions, and achieving the goals of Vision 2030.
The Astronaut Program plays an important role in the global space science research community and in the service of humanity and its future, just as it is convinced that space research will have an impact on the future of industries and the nation, inspiring a future generation of emerging scientists and astronauts, and encouraging more young students to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
