For the fourth year since 2018, the Canadian Science Policy Center and the Office of the Chief Science Advisor of Canada have invited researchers to participate in their program Science meets Parliament. Three members of the University of Montreal were among the 50-person delegation whose applications were accepted. Anne Gallagher and Gareth Lim have been named to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Tier II Canada Research Chairs category, while Miriam Cohen has been selected to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council – Tier II Canada Research Chairs category.
This Canadian initiative aims to strengthen relations between the scientific and political communities, enhance dialogue between the two parties, and enhance mutual understanding through participation in the development of various federal policies.
Delegates will participate in several meetings, including an orientation session that will provide information on the work of Parliament, House or Senate committee meetings, Question Period in Parliament as well as workshops on topics such as evidence-based decision making and science communication at the nexus between media and policy development in Parliament .
Members of the program's annual delegation will meet on May 6-7 in Ottawa.
