After all the trouble it had to pay Quebec residents the $6 million they owed, Apple received a second slap in the face, this one from the Financial Markets Authority (AMF).

AppleCare+ was the subject of an investigation, at the end of which we learned that the California giant must now pay an administrative fine of $175,000 to the state of Quebec.
The product will still be offered in Quebec, but through an approved insurance company. AppleCare+ is not a warranty, the AMF ruled, since covered risks are not limited to hardware malfunction or malfunction.
Therefore, it is the insurance company that must provide this. That will soon be the case, as Apple has begun the process in Quebec ahead of the signing of the agreement announced on Friday.
The gendarme points out that “Apple agreed to cooperate by showing transparency and good faith.”
The penalty and agreement don't change anything for customers who already have AppleCare+ contracts. It remains in effect until it expires.
Two shots in one week
The first slap in the face came earlier this week from the Montreal lawyer who was suing Apple over Apple Care.
Apple must pay $25 to every Quebec citizen who said yes to this guarantee since 2015. But the Ontario administrator managing the claims is dragging its feet so much that it should be immediately replaced by a local company, demands Joey Zukran.
His case against Apple dates back to 2023. He accused the tech giant of not informing its customers in Quebec that there was a legal guarantee in our laws.
Apple signed an agreement with the attorney and signed a $6 million check for 76,000 people whose ID is linked to an Apple Care contract signed between December 20, 2015 and January 26, 2023.
