The UK will eliminate tariffs on 99% of goods imported from Nigeria under its new trade arrangement for developing economies aimed at 65 countries around the world.
“Nigeria is one of the UK’s most important partners in Africa and the UK Government is committed to working with Nigerian businesses and exporters to increase trade between our two great countries” UK Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria Ben Llewellyn Jones said in a statement.
The new tariff system covers nearly 3,000 products and will benefit exporters of cocoa, cotton, bananas, flowers, fertilizers, tomatoes, frozen shrimp and sesame.
After Brexit, the United Kingdom increased trade incentives for many partners, some of which are in Africa. Its trade with Nigeria was estimated at nearly 5.5 billion pounds on the 2ndTh quarter of 2022, according to the International Trade Report released last week.
