Riga | A US official announced, on Wednesday, that the head of US diplomacy, Anthony Blinken, will meet with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, in Stockholm on Thursday, amid renewed military tensions on the border between Russia and Ukraine.
The US Secretary of State will meet the Russian minister after a meeting still in the Swedish capital on the sidelines of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba.
Anthony Blinken was in Riga, Latvia on Wednesday for a NATO meeting largely dedicated to the new tensions.
The Ukrainian minister, who attended this meeting, demanded that NATO on Wednesday present a “deterrence package” against Russia, which Kiev and the West suspect of preparing a possible invasion of Ukraine. In recent weeks, they denounced the “unusual” movements of Russian forces on the border with the neighboring country, for the second time this year, and warned of the “serious consequences” of a hostile military operation.
Moscow in turn accused Kiev on Wednesday of massing forces in the east of the country.
