A major outage has hit many Videotron subscribers since Friday morning in Quebec. This was probably due to vandalism.
The fiber optic outage interrupted communications services for some customers in the sectors of Beauport, Charlesbourg, Courville, Libourgneuve, Limoilleux, Montmorency and Saint-Laurent-de-l’Isle-d’Orléans.
“Our team on the ground was able to observe that the fiber optic cables were cut, and circumstances led us to believe this was an act of sabotage,” a company spokesperson confirmed in writing.
A report has also been filed with the Quebec City Police Department, according to spokeswoman Marie-Pierre Rivard.
She explains: “In the morning, we were informed of a possible error related to the collapse, so we will travel to analyze the facts.”
Videotron teams were on the ground to restore service as quickly as possible.
The company indicated on its website that services should be restored gradually and completely to all customers by early evening.
According to the latest data obtained, approximately 70% of affected customers have now restored their services.
