Joe Manchin changed his political affiliation on Friday, leaving the Democratic Party to register as an independent. This change may be a prelude to the West Virginia senator's participation in the elections that will put his seat at stake next November or the position of governor of his state. So far, Manchin has had no indication that he intends to run for office in November, meaning his seat would shift to Republicans.
However, Manchin's participation in the Senate elections as an independent may allow him to keep his seat and will increase the chances of Democrats maintaining their majority in the Senate, if of course he continues to sit within the Democratic group. One thing was certain: he would find himself at the center of work and attention, which he always seemed to seek.
