If there is one Montreal Canadiens player clearly interested in the Women's Professional Hockey League (LPHF) activities, it is Quebec defenseman Mike Matheson. And for good reason: His wife, Emily Pfalzer, herself won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.

Also a four-time Women's Hockey World Champion (2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019), Pfalzer clearly has many former teammates in the LPHF.
“My wife has played for a long time, and this is of course an important topic for me and my family,” said Matheson, who showed his support for the Lebanese Football Association by doing something simple. Broussard earlier this week. It's incredible what has been done to create a league of this caliber.
Back to the game?
Regarding Matheson's wife, who plays on the blue line like her husband, could she be tempted to return to the game? She is only 30 years old… For now, the Matheson family, completed by her son Hudson, intends to go and watch some games between now and the end of the season, whether at Verdun or Laval.
For the record, the couple had met not far from an ice rink, at Boston College, where they both represented the institution in hockey. Pfalzer notably played there for a few seasons with Alex Carpenter, a prolific forward playing for New York in the LPHF.
“We encourage them”
When asked about the Women's Professional Hockey League, Canadian coach Martin St. Louis naturally pointed to the role the organization has to play in helping women promote the league.
“I think it's important, there's a team in Montreal, it's a new league that benefits from good support from the beginning, and that's what we'll do in Montreal as well,” Saint-Louis said. We know it's the opening match [à domicile] Saturday, so we are cheering them on.”
