Cycling. “This week in Australia, many friends joked about the malpractice in organizing the World Cup, the value of the rainbow jersey when so many stars withdraw, and the mistake of having French team officials travel in business class. When the rest of the representatives are in economy class… not to mention many countries, due to lack of funds, have given up sending athletes… what’s the point? Giving Australia the worlds if not the best?
This leads me to question the budget planning of a national federation that Ireland (26th out of 201 in the UCI rankings) didn’t send a team for financial reasons, but instead knew years in advance that the worlds would be in Australia. In 2022 and again in 2023, they will be based in Glasgow (200 km from Belfast).
