QMJHL Series: The Eagles won Game 3 of the semifinals against Drakkar 2 to 1

Cam Squires scored his eighth and ninth goals of the playoffs, and the Cape Breton Eagles brought back the thrill of the semifinals against Baie-Comeau Drakkar with a 2-1 win on Monday.

Drakkar, the QMJHL's undisputed power in the regular season and the holder of a ten-game winning streak prior to this showdown, suffered its first failure during the postseason calendar.

Squires' second goal of the night at 4:29 of the third period gave the Eagles some breathing room.

But Pay Comeau did not give up – far from it – and Jules Bouillard was able to bring the Côte Nord team closer by scoring at 8:15 of the final third.

Goaltender Nicolas Ruccia was then the undisputed star for Cape Breton. He made important saves in the final minute and a half of play while Drakkar pressed.

Ruccia was tested 40 times in this third duel.

The two clubs will return to action on Tuesday (6 p.m. Quebec time) for Game 4 at the Center 200 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Squires was the fourth pick of the New Jersey Devils last year.

A native of Charlottetown, he leads the Eagles with 19 points since the start of the playoffs, including nine goals.

There were nearly seven minutes gone into the first half when the Drakkar got their first shot, after seven shots from the crowd favourites.

The 200, which was full for the third straight game, hosted a third-round playoff game for the first time since 2007.
